What is SharePoint Online?
SharePoint Online functions as a content management and collaboration platform that integrates with other Microsoft 365 applications. The platform enables users to store, manage, and share content securely while facilitating real-time co-creation.
Site types
The platform offers two distinct site architectures:
- Communications Sites – designed for broadcasting information to broad audiences where limited contributors create content consumed by many.
- Project Team Sites – allow most members to contribute content within a limited group of team members and stakeholders.
Common use cases
Two primary user roles exist: site users who navigate sites like standard websites, and project site owners who maintain full control of SharePoint environments.
